The Northern Sunfish (Great Lakes – Upper St. Lawrence populations) was listed as a species of Special Concern under the Species at Risk Act (SARA) in 2019. This proposed management plan is part of a series of documents for this species that are linked and should be taken into consideration together, including the Committee on the Status of Wildlife in Canada status report (2016).
